tender is the moment, when
she looks across the room and sees
all the roses and carnations bundled with
giant ribbons and elegant cards, hand written
messages of condolences and fondness and no trace of the
controversy that littered his life for the last fifteen months.
the embarrassment and shame of it all
left outside, left behind in the parking lots like
faded beer cans and discarded wrappers.
